Melanie Hicken is New York City based-journalist studying in New York University’s graduate Business and Economic Reporting program.

Following her 2009 graduation from Syracuse University, she spent two years working for the community news division of the Los Angeles Times. As the Glendale City Hall beat reporter, she covered topics ranging from City Council elections and water rates to municipal borrowing and budget cuts.

Melanie is especially passionate about investigative reporting. In Glendale, she worked as part of a three-person Los Angeles Times reporting team for an investigation into ties between an affordable housing developer under federal investigation for fraud and elected officials in Glendale and Los Angeles. The FBI investigation remains ongoing.
